Today I’m going to show you how to start building your email list using totally free tools.
This is actually the first of two posts that walk you through the process.
The first step (this post, keep reading) is to arrange a free email autoresponder (the place where your email list will live and where you will customize and send your emails from).
The second step is to set up your website so that it will collect email addresses from your site visitors on autopilot. The second post will be live in a few days – and when it is, you’ll find the link here.
Before we get started, I wanted to let you know that I’ve prepared a printable guide for you – it goes through all of the steps from this post. I recommend you grab it and have it by your side as you arrange your free email autoresponder.
Lets get started.
When you’re building an email list, the first tool you need to organise is an email autoresponder.
If you’re running any sort of business – I highly recommend you DON’T follow the free pathway outlined in this post, because you’re going to want the improved functionality that you’ll get from a paid service.
This post was written for people who are looking for a free way to get started with email lists that can easily be upgraded and scaled at a later time, when they CAN afford it.
I’m going to show you how to get started, step by step.
First, you’ll need to click the big button that says “GO TO MAILCHIMP”.
It’s going to open a new tab for you and take you to their website so you can sign up for a free account. Please be aware that I am an affiliate of MailChimp, which means that I might be paid a commission (at no cost to you) if you decide to buy anything from them – but you won’t need to at this stage, because this guide is all about signing up for a free account.
Click on the button in the top right part of the screen that says “Sign Up Free”
Each criteria gets greyed out once your password complies with it.
Make sure you write your password down, and click on the button that says “create my account”
Click on ‘Create a List’
You’ll need to enter your list name (I use my website name), a default ‘from’ email address and ‘from’ name for the emails you’ll be sending and wording for a reminder to people about why they’re receiving the information from you
Make sure you check that your contact detail is correct (and edit it NOW if it’s not) and select whether you want to be notified whenever someone new signs up, or just get a daily summary email. I like getting the daily summary. Click save, and you’re done.
Stay tuned for my next post, where I’ll show you a super-simple way to use your website to start collecting email addresses. It only takes about 5 minutes to set up, and it’s free.
I’ve also prepared a printable guide for you – it goes through all of the steps from this post. I recommend you have it by your side as you arrange your free email autoresponder.
Until next time
